It is, in a sense, a romantic adventure of love, intrigue, and daring swordplay, and it delivers the excitement and deviousness of a good example of that story. Its tone, however, is memorably at an angle to how that story is normally written.

When they do not feel up to the task of gentlemanly When I was growing up, Ellen Kushner’s novel Swordspoint was one of the first I read that depicted LGBTQIA relationships in a positive light, and I adored it.
I didn't care much for the sequels, but _Swordspoint_ was extremely well done; great subtle characterization and world building.
